Wardruna was started in the early 2000s and has since established itself internationally with a distinctive musical presentation of older Nordic cultural traditions. Through the use of old and historical Nordic instruments and sounds from nature, the band creates a soundscape that connects the past and the present.
The band plays on stages all over the world and has performed at the Royal Albert Hall, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Pompeii and the Theatre of Dionysus on the Acropolis, among other places.
Wardruna have long wanted to play in Hallingdal. When band member Eilif Gundersen turns 70, it became an opportunity to carry out the plans for a concert in Ål.
